Title: The Master of Disguise

Producers: Barry Bernardi, Sid Ganis, Todd Garner, Adam Sandler, Alex Siskin
Writers: Dana Carvey, Harris Goldberg
Starring: Dana Carvey, Jennifer Esposito, Harold Gould, James Brolin, Brent Spiner
Release date: August 2, 2002
PODCAST SHOUTOUT: The Unwritable Rant, with Juliette Miranda (@MorningNeurosis)
SHOWNOTES: ...My god, Collateral Cinephiles, what have we brought upon ourselves? What evil forces came together to foist this detritus upon the masses? What fresh kind of hell does this movie hail from? What possessed Dana Carvey to write the 2002 wannabe kids "comedy" and cinematic weapon of mass destruction known as The Master of Disguise? It certainly couldn't be the overall humor, because that would imply there was something even remotely humorous about this shitpile. It couldn't be the many inconsistent performances and needless celebrity cameos that are peppered throughout this dreck, because that sort of thing would require some level of cleverness, or forethought to be used here! It must have been either a momentary lapse of comedic judgement, or the worst act of cinematic terrorism committed against the moviegoing public since Ghosts Can't Do It... But one way or the other, hosts Beau, Robert, Ash, and Dakota went to war with this monstrous excuse of a film for your amusement and for science... or something. (THIS MOVIE SUCKS; IT WILL HURT YOU TO WATCH IT—DON'T DO IT!!!)

PODCAST SHOUTOUT: Christian and Damon's Amazing Nerd Show
SHOWNOTES: Welcome back podphiles and cinephiles! As we hinted at previously on our episode featuring The Room, we finally got around to watching and analyzing the 2017 comedic drama/movie-making biopic The Disaster Artist, and we fully admit to nerding out hardcore over this one. As everyone knows, we were huge fans of Tommy Wiseau's legendary so-bad-its-awesome flick, and we could totally feel the sheer love and fandom displayed here by the Franco brothers and every single actor that made this hilarious adaptation of Greg Sestero's and Tom Bissel's landmark peek behind The Room's production. We discuss the journey this story made to be on the silver screen, James and Dave Franco's amazingly adept performances of Tommy and Greg, the uncannily awesome recreations of key scenes from The Room, the many liberties taken with the actual story from the book, and how this movie has become an indispensable companion piece to The Room itself. We hope you join us for our dive into The Disaster Artist, and feel free to leave us a comment and rate/review us! Also, introducing for the first time on this podcast, new host Dakota Chancellor, brother of our own Ashley Chancellor!

We trekked to our local cinema, and were floored by what has become one of the most successful slasher releases in quite a while—even beating It: Chapter One's giant October opening(!)—and we were stoked to talk about Jamie Lee Curtis' powerhouse performance, the truly menacing return of Michael Myers as "The Shape", the many callbacks to previous installments in the franchise, the absolutely jarring thematic elements, and even the show-stealing performance of young up-and-comer Jibrail Nantambu! We also give a little love to the Cinema Snob's series of reviews for the Halloween franchise, and celebrate the absolutely wonderful realization that BEN TRAMER LIVES!!! While this movie is certainly made for TV quality, it still engaged us with its likable characters, spirited directing, and heartfelt storyline with a surprisingly sad backstory. Chazz also talks a bit about Trial By Error and what he has in store for his listeners in the near future. So cuddle up with your (undead) significant other, and join us for all the zombie madness! SHOWNOTES: That's right, fellow movie geeks; Collateral Cinema is back, and we've finally reached the final episode of Season One! On this season finale, Beau, Rob, and Ash decided to go full-on cult movie mode (again! Lol) as we review and analyze the absolutely batshit-insane 1991 martial arts/exploitation classic, Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky, which has the head exploding scene used on the Craig Kilborne-era of Comedy Central's Daily Show! This movie is legendary for its absolutely excessive gore, which soaks the screen (and its actors as well!) with more blood than you can shake a Deadite at, and the martial arts action that causes all the mayhem, as well as the amazingly exaggerated acting and dialogue, makes for a graphic experience that we'll always enjoy with every viewing. So join us, as we send off our first season with tons of gore, and more than a few ham-fisted performances!

Ep 11: Harmony Korine's Gummo – Collateral Cinema Movie Podcast (SPOILERS)

Monday Aug 20, 2018
Title: Gummo [Wikipedia] [IMDb]
Director: Harmony Korine
Producers: Scott Macaulay, Robin O'Hara, Cary Woods, Nifty da Saurus
Writer: Harmony Korine
Stars: Linda Manz, Max Perlich, Jacob Reynolds, Chloë Sevigny, Jacob Sewell, Nick Sutton
Release date: October 17, 1997
SHOWNOTES: Welcome to our rural American nightmare, Collateral Cinema listeners! That's right, hosts Beau, Robert, and Ash go back to the 90s arthouse, as we explore Harmony Korine's (@harmfulkorine) classically disturbing 1997 debut, Gummo. This film challenged us in many, many ways; with it's unique approach to cinematography, complete lack of a three-arc story structure, use of non-actors for realistic impact, stream of consciousness script writing, and the nightmarish dive into the depravity and emptiness of the American dream. This movie is peircing, haunting, disturbing, and unlike anything else released before or since; join us, as we barely scratch the surface of this twisted American psycho-drama, and take a trip with us into the dark underbelly of the American Zeitgeist.
