SHOWNOTES: Welcome back, Collateral Cinema fans! Our resident "car guy" Robert Ortegon has picked out another influential film of the "car chase" genre: the 1974 original Gone in 60 Seconds, directed, produced, and written by H. B. Halicki! Beau, Ash, and Dakota join Robert in discussing this independent action movie well known for the 93 destroyed cars during the filming of its record-holding 40-minute car chase scene, as well as the 2000 remake it inspired (starring Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie). We talk the direction of Halicki—a car lover with no prior experience in filmmaking, the cinematography, the use of actual car wrecks and real bystanders during filming, and of course, the cars (including famous Ford Mustang "Eleanor"). We even compare and contrast this title with its remake and other car movies at length! If you enjoy Collateral Cinema, stay tuned for our "Miikeversary"—that's right, folks; we'll be focusing on Takashi Miike's Visitor Q in time for our third anniversary!
